BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Several local lawmakers called for money to help refugees in New York State on Wednesday following the recent death of a Burmese man in Buffalo.
Circumstances surrounding the death of Nurul Amin Shah Alam have come under national scrutiny. Lawmakers are asking for $15 million to be included in the next state budget for the “Enhanced Services to Refugees Program.” They said that doing so will offset funding cutbacks and cover the cost of vital services for refugees.
